THE MIDDLEBIE HOARD c. AD 50-200 From the collections of the National Museum of Scotland Proceeds from the sale of this product support National Museums Scotland. This jewellery is based on designs from Iron Age bridle bits and strap fasteners among a collection of bronze chariot fittings. It is one of the earliest finds of Celtic art from Scotland. The Middlebie Hoard was discovered by chance in 1737 in a bog, a place thought sacred to people of the Iron Age. Chariots were high-status vehicles during this time period, and this valuable material was probably deliberately buried as a religious offering. Length: 7.5" Materials: Pewter with imitation rhodium finish
